Understanding child development

What are the objectives of the course?

  • To understand the different rates and paces children develop and learn
  • To be aware of different theories and ways of looking at child development
  • To be able to identify if a child is developing appropriately and what to do if there are concerns
  • To reflect on own current practice and skills within child development and develop them further
What is the content of the course?

The activities during the training are varied and lively to give practitioners hands on activities to keep them engaged and interested. Experience of training a wide range of practitioners has shown this to be a highly effective way of developing practitioner understanding, confidence and skills and creating impact in a range of early years settings.
If training is delivered within a single early years setting, there is an opportunity for staff to work together on child development and consider processes for the setting. This is done through an action plan format.
If staff come from a range of settings, individual practitioners are encouraged to implement a development in their own practice e.g. reflect on their strengths and areas to work on in child development, to have a greater understanding of typical development

What is the duration of the course?

This course can be delivered:
  • as a two day course
  • over three staff meetings, twlights or evenings (2 hours each)

This course has been adapted in light of the  changes to the Early Years Foundation Stage (DfE 2012)

 Testimonials

I have recently attended Development Matters Training which was run by Anita Soni.  I really enjoyed the way Anita delivered the training by making it fun and interesting.  I would attend training delivered by Anita again.

Paula Casey, Senior Family Support Worker, Sundridge Children's Centre

Thanks Anita, I enjoyed the day it was very interesting and I have recommended it to the Early Years Team

Dawn Brandon, Community Nursery Nurse, Story Wood Children's Centre

I came away from the Development Matters course feeling inspired by what Dr Anita Soni had to say. Her relaxed manner makes you feel valued and not afraid to ask question. Every preschool/nursery staff should have access to Anita Soni.

I found the training very useful and easy to understand. I loved your laid back approach and that you gave examples for everything you covered. Any further training I hope is with you,
